AIMP is a professional and examination body dedicated to advancing the practice of Applied Information Management in Nigeria. Our mandate covers professional education, training, examinations, certification, registration, licensing, professional ethics, research, innovation and continuing professional development.
As information continues to shape organisations, governments and society, AIMP promotes professional competence in information governance, records management, data governance, knowledge management, information security governance, artificial intelligence governance, digital transformation and other emerging areas of information management.
We are committed to developing competent information professionals who can apply cutting-edge knowledge to solve organisational and societal challenges. Through professional qualifications, examinations, research, conferences, training and continuing professional development, we seek to raise standards and promote excellence across the profession.
Membership is open to qualified professionals, graduates, students, organisations and institutions who meet the requirements prescribed by the Association. AIMP Overview
Establishment and Background
The Association of Applied Information Management Professionals (AIMP) was established in 2016 as a professional and examination body dedicated to the development and advancement of Applied Information Management in Nigeria.
AIMP is committed to regulating professional practice, establishing standards of knowledge and competence, conducting professional examinations, registering qualified practitioners, providing professional education and training, promoting research and innovation, and supporting continuing professional development.
Its professional mandate covers information management, information governance, records management, data governance, knowledge management, artificial intelligence governance, information security governance, digital transformation, research and related areas. The Association also works with educational institutions, professional bodies and other stakeholders to promote excellence in the profession.

Professional Ethics
Professional ethics is central to the practice of Applied Information Management. AIMP expects its members to uphold honesty, integrity, competence, confidentiality, independence, objectivity and professional responsibility in the management, protection, preservation and use of information resources.
Code of Professional Ethics
Fundamental Principles
- Members shall act with honesty, integrity and transparency in the discharge of their professional responsibilities.
- Members shall maintain professional competence and exercise due care in the performance of their duties.
- Members shall protect confidential, classified and sensitive information entrusted to their care.
- Members shall maintain independence and objectivity in professional decisions and recommendations.
- Members shall comply with applicable laws, professional standards, policies and regulations.
- Members shall promote responsible information management, innovation and recognised professional best practices.
Professional Responsibility
- Members shall discharge their professional duties competently and responsibly.
- Members shall safeguard information resources entrusted to their care.
- Members shall protect confidential, classified and sensitive information.
- Members shall ensure compliance with applicable information governance standards.
- Members shall promote innovation and best practices within the profession.
Conflict of Interest
Members shall identify, disclose and appropriately manage any actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest that may affect their professional independence or objectivity.
Confidentiality
Information obtained in the course of professional practice shall be treated with appropriate confidentiality and shall not be disclosed or used for personal benefit except where authorised, required by law or necessary to protect the public interest.
Continuing Professional Competence
Practising members are expected to maintain and improve their professional competence through education, research, training, professional development and participation in approved Continuing Professional Development programmes.
Practice Standards
The Council may issue professional standards, technical guidelines, codes of practice and practice advisories which shall be binding on members of the Association.
Professional Conduct
- Members shall uphold the reputation and dignity of the Applied Information Management profession.
- Members shall not use their professional position for improper personal gain.
- Members shall provide information and professional advice accurately and responsibly.
- Members shall avoid conduct that may bring the profession or the Association into disrepute.
Members who are uncertain about an ethical matter are encouraged to seek appropriate professional guidance and ensure that their decisions remain consistent with the Code of Professional Ethics and applicable professional standards.
