Database overview and history, foundations underlying database management systems, with an emphasis on its applications in business and organizations. The relational model, entity-relationship
diagrams, database design and normalization, and Structured Query Language (SQL); conceptual, logical, and physical database design: distributed databases; web technology and databases; advanced queries; and enterprise database administration. The business need for database processing. Database design, development, and administration. Real-world practice of database design and implementation using SQL. Issues related to transaction management, data warehouse, etc. Logical data models, relational database systems, structured query language (SQL), conceptual modeling database design, Web-connected databases, transaction management, distributed and heterogeneous systems, data warehousing, data mining, database administration issues and the management of multiuser databases. Deals with a variety of legal, social, and institutional dimensions of the environment in which business is conducted. Introduces students to the centrality of ethics, and importance of ethical standards in the business leaders’ decision process. Moral qualities as they appear in various arenas; autonomy, respect, integrity, and trust. Defining problems, devising alternative solutions, clarifying stakes in choices, predicting impacts of choices. Basic concepts in social psychology, judgment and decision making. The moral challenges facing leaders in the public and private sectors. The values and virtues important to
sustained ethical leadership as well as strategies to build strong institutional cultures and support ethical practices in institutions. Moral and political theory focusing on contemporary cases and issues. Broad aspects of organizational life, key internal and external challenges and opportunities of managing public and private organizations.
